I’ve rewatched the Korean version yesterday and today. It has 16 episodes and you might be asking me why I have to watched it again. Well, one is its not painful to watch it. Its not that draggy unlike some dramas and I admit its one of the best Kdrama I have viewed so far. Two, is I think when I watched it the first time I have skipped a lot of scenes that I can’t really remember what happen in the drama. Third and the most important of all I wanted to answer the question, why I was not attracted to Lee Jun Ki when I saw him here. lol! And in addition to that I was curious if the MY GIRL that is being shown now at ABS sticks to the original MY GIRL.
Here is the synopsis from Dramawiki :
When Gong Chan meets the lively and beautiful Yu Rin, he finds out that she has connections to his missing cousin, who his grandfather has been searching for a long time. He asks Yu Rin to lie about being his long missing cousin until he can find his real cousin. She says yes, but soon their feelings for each other get in the way of their plans. Gong Chan’s friend Jung Woo falls for Yu Rin while Gong Chan’s ex girlfriend, Seo Hyun, a pro tennis player, tries to win him back. Will the two ever tell each other how they feel? Will Gong Chan ever find his real cousin? My Girl was a Top Ten hit in Korea in 2006, aided by the appearance of hot new actor, Lee Joon Ki.
Now that I have watched MY GIRL again, I appreciated its story. It has action (c/o LJK), comedy and of course drama. There are romantic moments also. The only downside of it was some exaggerated Lee Dae He scenes. I’ve watched a couple of episode of MY GIRL PHILIPPINES and I think ABS stick to the original story with some revision to fit it in the PHILIPPINES’ scenery. But the Filipino actors and actresses are not convincing. I think I would agree with those posted in forums that its much better if this drama was given to Sam Milby and Toni Gonzaga. Kim’s portrayal of Jasmine is ok but when it comes to Gerald…urgh! This guy still needs to undergo a lot of workshop. And then there’s Enchong Dee the counterpart of LJK. I won’t say more because I might be biased to LJK.
Speaking of LJK, now i know why I was not attracted to him in this drama. First, was his hair. I just dont like it. And then his earrings on the drama really annoys me. lol! And one thing I have discovered. His cheekbone is not that pronounced in My Girl. That was the difference. I remember reading in a forum somewhere discussing that LJK went under the knife for his face. They are debating if its his eyes or cheeks. Well, those were just heresay since nobody can prove it. I think either he loss some weight or his features have matured to give him a more attractive look. Okay, enough of Lee Jun Ki.
MY GIRL has a nice romantic story. No wonder many love it. And no wonder ABSCBN acquired the franchise rights to remake the TV series. If only they have choosen the right people to act. lol! I am not sure of its rating right now since I rarely watched it but I know there are people who are waiting for English subs of it. So that means MY GIRL PHILIPPINES has its own following in the internet.
Oh I forgot. When I first saw MY GIRL, I was thinking of who the guy and girl are on the last part. I realized when I was looking at them was the GUY is the leading man in the drama WITCH AMUSEMENT (or WITCH YOO HEE) and the girl is the lead in ONLY YOU. But now I read that the two are lead of DELIGHTFUL GIRL/SASSY GIRL — i haven’t watched this drama so am not familiar with it.
So for those of you who are looking for english subs of the Korean Version of My Girl. You can head over to AZNV. While the MY GIRL PHILIPPINES is being uploaded and subbed everyday since its being shown locally everyday. You can see the subbed episodes in MY GIRL BLOG.

I so love My Girl the Korean Version. It’s so bubbly and just charming to watch. When the ABS CBN remake came along, it made it awful. Yeah, Kim and Gerald became a hit cos of this, but, no one can take the success of the original series. Naging baduy na My Girl gawa ng Filipino remake. Sorry guys, it’s just the truth. Lalo na when ABS made Lobo, it was originally the Korean Series, Forbidden Love! Why can’t they make their own stories for a series??? Kulang na siguro sa originality mga stations kaya nagcclaim na lang sila ng kung anong Asian Hit to remake para itaas ratings nila.

hi AC,
thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Filipino remake of My Girl. I agree with your point of view. I never even watched a full episode of it. I think there are a lot of Filipino remakes right now of Korean Novela because the rival networks are basking on the popularity of the Korean version.
thanks for commenting.
