I watched this drama because one it has Kimura Takuya. I equate KimuTaku to great dramas. Two, i love the synopsis its all bout a not so typical public prosecutor. And last, according to Wiki, Hero is a Japanese drama series that aired in Japan on Fuji TV in 2001. In 2006, a two-hour special miniseries for the television series was broadcast. Hero holds the #1 average TV rating record over the 25 years in Japan (34.3%). It’s so successful that it was made into a film as HERO the Movie after a long time in 2007, which reached #3 on 2007 yearly chart in Japan.

I first watched Hero the drama and the special.

Here is the synopsis of the drama, aired in 2001 :

Kohei Kuryu, played by Kimura Takuya, is a former juvenile delinquent that drops out of junior high and goes on to earn a high school equivalency diploma. After passing the law board exams, Kuryu becomes a prosecutor. Not your typical prosecutor, which is quickly seen through the clothes that he wears, Kuryu possesses quick instincts and a kind of cleverness that only someone raised on the streets could have.

Matsu Takako plays the role of public prosecutor Maiko Amamiya. The shrewd Amamiya, who has her eyes set on passing the exam to become a deputy prosecutor, tries her best to be noticed by her boss. Kuryu, on the other hand, after earning a reputation for doing top-notch work is transferred to Amamiya’s division, and finally opens his eyes to the possibility of promotion. Unfortunately, his unprecedented work behavior abruptly brings things to a halt.

Although earning a reputation as a bad apple, the influence from Kuryu’s strong pursuit of justice slowly begins to change things around him. This drama is filled with it all; love, laughs and lots of emotion.

And here is the synopsis of the special (aired in 2006) :

Five years after leaving Josai bureau, Kuryu Kohei, who has been working in Sapporo, Hokkaido, is transferred to Nijigaura, Yamaguch; a quiet place on the seaside where he arrives precisely when the first murder in eleven years has been committed.

Soon, Takita Akihiko, the most beloved and influent person of the town, is suspected and Kuryu has to deal with this problem, as the other members are too frightened to take any action.

Despite of the five years difference between the drama and the special, they retain the same actors and actresses. HERO show the life of public prosecutor and the intelligence that Kuryu have to make sure of proper trial. The drama might seem serious but Kuryu’s addiction to home tv shopping always makes me laugh and the way Kimura Takuya acts is really good.

A year after the series was made into a movie. Yap, the are BACK!

This time Kuryu and Amamiya went to Korea to solve a case. I read somewhere about the movie and I thought it would take long before I would be able to watch it good thing I check out crunchyroll.

Summary of the movie from Crunchyroll :

Kohei Kuryu, the prosecutor who shirks suit and tie for a pair of jeans but is never casual about his pursuit for the truth, is back! Besides the original TV series cast, Korean heartthrob Lee-Byung Hung is in it and was shot partly in Busan. This time, he is involved in an obscure case of manslaughter that turns into the trial of the century.

Failure here means the end of his career. He must solve it!

As expected the movie is also great. KimuTaku shines again on this one. And an added bonus is the ending between Amamiya and Kuryu.

From the drama, to the special, to the movie, this never left Kuryu.

Imagine a public prosecutor wearing this ?!? lol!

English subs of the drama, special and movie can be found in AZNV, Crunchyroll and Mysoju.
