Why I stopped my EC dropping ?

Posted June 21st @ 5:59 pm by mil3tt3

and why I am removing my Ecard from my two blogs (edit, I won’t be removing my EC yet. I’m doing some experiment).

THIS POST IS WRITTEN BASED ON THE RESEARCH I MADE ON BOUNCE RATE. MY VIEW MAY OR MAY NOT CHANGE IN THE FUTURE AS NEW FACTS ARE PRESENTED. THANKS.

When I sign up with entrecard I was so excited to try it. Everyday I try to drop ECs as much as I can. But somehow I got tired of dropping my card and then I read about BOUNCE RATE.

Wiki define BOUNCE RATE as (sometimes confused with Exit Rate) is a term used in web site traffic analysis. It essentially represents the average percentage of initial visitors to a site who “bounce” away to a different site, rather than continue on to other pages within the same site.

A bounce occurs when a web site visitor leaves a page or a site without visiting any other pages before a specified session-timeout occurs. There is no industry-standard minimum or maximum time by which a visitor must leave in order for a bounce to occur. Rather, this is determined by the session timeout of the analytics tracking software.

A visitor can bounce by:

  • Closing an open window or tab
  • Typing a new URL
  • Clicking the “Back” button to leave the site
  • Session timeout

I was a little bit concerned when I read this especially since I read somewhere (but I haven’t confirmed it yet) that bounce rate is one of the factor that affect page rank. I admit I am one of those Entrecard droppers who just visit a site, drop my card and close my browser or type another url. I am now having a guilty feeling when I read this article. I might be doing more harm that good to fellow bloggers.

I am not sure how to determine my blog’s bounce rate (edit : GOOGLE ANALYTICS measures BOUNCE RATE) but I know right now it is a little bit high. I am thinking of ways to decrease that number. I might remove the EC card on my two blogs after I served all advert that are on my queues right now. But there is still a thing that is bugging my mind. It is typical for us bloggers to go to a blog and just leave a comment in the tagboard or cbox or whatever you call it. Does that count as a bounce rate or not ? And would commenting help reduce bounce rate ? What do you think ?

Now that I learn the truth about bounce rate, I’m going to change my blog hopping habits. I hope you do too to help fellow bloggers!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the bounce rate if you’re posting good articles like you are. People will definitely read and comment.
