HoT Week #40

This is my first time to join this meme.

For this week its :

TAILS - Tell about your job (Or one you’ve had)

Before I decided to be a full time mom, I am employed with the leading IT company in the world. I am not only talking about personal computer but also servers, printers etc, anything that is IT.

I joined this company when I was about to graduate in college, when I was just 19 years old. A neophyte with no knowledge whatsoever of the operation. The job that I was doing was a job that is different from the degree I got from college.

In this job, I was able to handle 14 trainees. College students from different schools with different attitude and sometimes older that me. It was my responsibility to make them work together as a group or our operation would be a failure. The group is centered on hardware, I graduated knowing only software. But through guidance and some learning I managed to survived and be able to lead those soon to be professionals.

Hand in hand with handling trainees, I was also tasked in updating, implementing and making of new process for our division. I also do process testing and monitoring of assets etc.

At the last two years of my employment, I was given an AP role, one I cherished the most because I got to know a lot of people from the Asia Pacific region. We mostly conversed through a program that works like a Yahoo Messenger and sometimes scheduled meeting via phone. For the two years, I have received numerous recommendation and awards.

But at the end of the day, especially when I already have my daughter I realized that my energy is being consumed on something that give me temporary contenment. Somehow I feel that the time I have should all be spent taking care of my daughter. And so, I submitted my resignation Feb 2007. My manager was shocked to say the least. He even declined the letter and told me to think about it. And then they give me offers. Like salary increase and the option to work at home. They know the salary increase won’t be a factor. Because they know that my husband is earning more that enough for the family. My salary was not even one fourth of his pay in Kuwait. My manager even joke that he is ready to give the salary of our GM just so I stay. But my decision was final. It took almost a month before they accepted my resignation. And so April 1, 2007, was my first day for my second job.

A job that gives me that energy to get going. A job that I would not trade of for anything. Even a luxurious office and a hefty salary won’t take me away. The job is 24/7, no vacation leave, no sick leave but I am in the front row witnessing the unveiling of one of god’s creation, a testimony that miracles do happen if you just keep the faith. I have a new name now. It’s mommy and its a music to my ear.

Your workplace must have really thought someone of you to make you that offer thats so nice.

But your right, nothing beats staying at home with your kids. I think it makes a difference how the kids grow up staying at home with them.

When it’s time to leave no amount of inducements make any difference. I agree, for me, nothing beats staying at home with your kids.
