Teri Hatcher made it to the headline here in the Philippines. Her face is shown in every news program morning and night (and I bet even late night).
Her lines in the premiere episode of Desperate Housewives season 4 (not sure since I do not watch this show, i’ve seen two or three episodes but it does not fit my fancy) “Before we go any further can i check those diplomas coz I would just like to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines”
I visited one of the videos of this scene in YOUTUBE and it got around 700+ conflicting comments.
Some say its funny, some say its insulting.
I haven’t watched the whole episode, but the video of the scene in YouTube, makes me want to asked where did the lines came from. One, Teri Hatcher is talking to a guy who does not even have a slightest feature of being a Filipino. Two, do they really need to mention the name of our country ? Why ?
I would say that not all are doctors are good. In fact, I have a not so good experienced with this profession when my lupus is just starting. That I started to doubt the capabilities all doctors. But should I say that good doctors still outnumbered bad doctors. Because now, I am on remission because of a good doctor.
But it is offensive nonetheless to hear this line from her. True, the writer is the source but as an actress ( i think) she still has the right to decline the lines, right ? And to think that we are experiencing shortage of good doctors because most of them have flown to their country and have been taking care of her fellow Americans.
Majority of us wanted an apology in fact the Philippine government according to Sec. Ermita will be asking for an apology from ABC.
My question is will they apologize ? And if they do apologize, would we be satisfied ?
