Hmmm…i know you are itching to read this post as you have been intrigued by the title. Yap, you guess is right, I have a new job.
But now, its not your ordinary eight to five job. And if you know me it would be the last thing in your mind that I would end up with.
So here’s the story of how I end up being an INSURANCE AGENT of PHILAM (yeah, yeah, yeah! but hey I am a LICENSED INSURANCE AGENT i did pass the AGENCY TESTING SERVICE LIFE EXAMINATION as I previously blog here. Got 100% in my exam.)
Anyway, lets go back to the story. Hubby wanted to have an insurance from PHILAM. At first I asked a friend to help me out. But I told my mother in law about it, she told me that it would be better if I just apply as an agent because of the benefits I can get once I am accepted. So with that in mind, I went to Robinsons Metro East. At my first attempt I was not able to talk to anybody that could help me out. On my second attempt I was able to meet Grace, who is now my boss.
Grace told me to attend an career orientation. I was a bit hesitant because I am not used to attending such. I am not the type of person who can sit still for more that an hour. In meetings in my previous work I always go out to get some water or go to the washroom. hehe.
But I did attend and have not regret it. The orientation open me to an unknown world which right now I wanted to explore. Especially now that we are looking for solid investments. After that orientation, I attended one more seminar. This time with hubby. The wealth management seminar.
Before hubby left, he was able to sign the policy for his insurance. And yes, he is also my first client. Thanks to Grace, his insurance was recorded under my code, which helps me land the top 20 agent of the year. Would you believe that ?
And of course, my passing the agent service test sealed my job as an insurance agent. I will know start attending trainings and can give proposal to people who are interested to be insured. You might allergic to that word but believe its one of the investments you really have to make.
I for one do not believe in it. But after attending even just the career orientation, I knew I was wrong. Proof of which is that I am now interested in learning what PHILAM has in stored for people who are interested in getting their policy. Who knows from being an insurance agent, i can venture into being a financial adviser/agent. Talking about equity funds, mutual funds and stocks.
Here are some things that I would like to share with you which I have learn so far :
- Most common among OFW, is that they would target that they would just be working abroad for 5 years for example so that they can earn enough to secure their future. B
- Filipino are allergic to insurance. (me included). And we want tangible results asap. Thats why many of us would not want to invest our money for even just five years. But think. If you invest your money at 7% per annum, how much would it be in five years ? Of how much would it be when you retire ? At age 60?
- Right now, our society have three kinds of retirees : the one who is dependent on her/his family, the one who have no choice but to work because she has no one to depend to, and lastly the one who enjoys her life. Who do you think invested on her future ? Unfortunately, the smallest percentage of Filipino retiree is on the last one. Now, if you retire where do you want to belong ?
- Banks are not the only places to invest your money. They are great for safekeeping but if you want your money to really grow search and learn about equity fund, mutual fund, bonds, and stocks.
- The value of one million now will not be the same ten or twenty years from now. Consider the inflation rate.
- It its ok to have a house of your own. But make sure that not all your money will be on the house. A real estate is a liabilty. Just like a car. But both can be turn into an asset if both start earning.
This are only the few things I have learn. And have been etched in my mind. Now, I am on the process of researching and putting into practice what I have researched.
And if you have some time to read I would recommend Bo Sanchez’s book 8 secrets of the Truly Rich, as always, I have learn a lot from this book. Although some including Bo mentioned also the book of Robert Kiyosaki — Rich Dad, Poor Dad.
Plugging — if you are interested in getting life insurance or what to invest please feel free to leave me a comment. i’ll be to glad.
